Buddhika (66 not out) rescues Cambrians

St. Sebastian’s Skipper Anuk de Alwis called the coin correctly and invited Prince of Wales to take the first lease in their annual 60th inter-school Big Match played at De Zoysa Stadium, Moratuwa.

Cambrian openers Isuru Thilina (33) and Nipun Chamara gave a sound start for the first wicket with 53 runs and after their departure Anuk de Alwis’ gamble worked off and Cambrians wickets tumbled at regular intervals.

At this stage Harith Wijesuriya joined the former Skipper Buddhika de Alwis and put on a valuable 29 runs for the eight wicket and Wijesuriya contributed 20 runs.

De Alwis was unbeaten with an elegant 66 runs stroking eight fours in 150 minutes facing 120 balls and Cambrians were all out for 185.

When the stumps were drawn on day one Sebastians were 46 for 3 with their two top order batsmen Deshan Dias and Oshada Fernando getting out cheaply.
