The Northern Provincial Council is to implement a program under the
Uthuru Vasanthaya (Northern Spring program) to build a warehouse to
repair all machinery collected in the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu
districts.
Northern Province Governor G. A. Chandrasiri said all the machinery
items such as bicycles, tractors, water pumps and other items and
documents in the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu are to be recovered and
repaired at the warehouse.
"Over 500 bicycles, 200 tractors, thousands of water pumps and many
other machinery items have been recovered so far from the Kilinochchi
and Mullaitivu districts," he added.
A warehouse will be constructed in Kilinochchi to repair the
recovered machinery items.
Initially, the recovered items will be transported to Kilinochchi and
will be repaired by the Government. The repaired machinery will be taken
back to the original place and handed over to the people.
"If a tractor was identified by the owner after being repaired, the
owner will have to incur the cost of repair. Bicycles and water pumps
will be repaired free of charge by the Government and handed over to
people in the respective areas," Major General Chandrasiri told the
Daily News.
This program was initiated by the Northern Province Governor after
obtaining approval from the Ministry of Defence and the Northern
Provincial Council.
