Indika launches maiden CD

Talented vocalist Indika Upamali will launch her maiden cassette and CD titled Sanda Pahan Raye. The CD, a Torana product, will be launched at Elphinstone theatre on March 18 at 6.30 p.m.

Nanda Malini will be the chief guest for the event. She will also join Indika in one of her songs. W.D. Ariyasinghe too would duet with Indika. A special operetta titled Kuveni put together by Indika's students too will be showcased.

The operetta is scripted by renowned teledrama and filmmaker Jayantha Chandrasiri.

The Channa Wijewardena dance troupe will join in some of the dance performances when Indika will sing some of her songs with western and eastern mix.

Samantha Perera and his band will provide music. Nilar N. Cassim will compere the event.

The music in the CD are composed by popular music composers like Rohana Weerasinghe, Navaratne Gamage, Kasun Kalhara, Nadeeka Guruge, Ranga Dassanayake and Samantha Perera.

Indika is a student of Presmasiri Khemadasa and had trained under him for 20 years.

Around 12 songs comprise the CD which will include the award winning song she sang for the teledrama Kelimadala and the song she dueted with Nanda Malini. Sanda Pahan Raye which won her the Signis award for best vocalist will also be part of the CD.

Indika learnt music from Malini Bulathsinhala while schooling at Ananda Balika. She had played pivotal roles in Khemadasa's operas Manasa Vila, Ira Madala, Varnadasi, Agni and Pirinivan Mangalya. She had rendered her voice to background vocals in films like Salamuthu Pinna, Kanyavi and Sulang Kirilli.

Nanda brings Landa Dige

Anna Pathirage who had enthralled music fans through her heartwarming voice for years had launched her maiden cassette and CD.

The CD and cassette, a Torana product, will comprise well-loved songs like Landa Dige, Bindu Bindu Mal Vasse, Mage Dasa, Yali Upandinnam, Attha Balapan, Yaya Diga and many more. Around 16 songs will be included in the album.

Premakeethi de Alwis, K.D.K. Dharmawardena, Kularatne Ariyawansha, Dolton Alwis, Daya Alwis, Rathnasri Wijesinghe, Vinitha B. Abeywickrama, Ananda Padmasiri, Bandula Jayasinghe, Shantha Deshabandu, Gamini Wijethunga and others have penned the lyrics. Rohana Weerasinghe, Premadasa Athukorala, Stanley Peries, Jayantha Gamage, Bandula Vijeweera and others have composed the melodies which were set to music by Manoj Peries for the album. Edward Jayakody and T.M. Jayaratne had rendered their voices for Nanda's debut cassette and CD. - RJ

 


Balloth Ekka Bae at Borella

Two special 50th shows of the hilarious comedy Balloth Ekka Bae written and directed by Ravindra Ariyarathna will be staged at the Borella Namel Malini Punchi Theatre on March 20 at 6.45 p.m. Starring are Wijaya Nandasiri, Roshan Pilapitiya, Gihan Fernando, Saman Hemarathna (Leelasena), Kumara Thirimadura and Luvolin Vandervol, with music of Shantha Peiris, stage set designed by Luvolin Vandervol and stage management of Asoka de Zoysa and Shantha Udaya Kumara, the drama will be an experience too costly to miss.

 

 

 


Book launch

Submarine Banneheka's latest Buddhist Book Asirimath Bana Katha - 4 will be launched at Dayawansa Jayakodi Book Exhibition Hall, Colombo 10 on March 9 at 10 a.m.

Banneheka is the author of Asirimath Bana Katha - 1, Asirimath Bana Katha - 2 and Asirimath Bana Katha - 3.

Asirimath Bana Katha - 4 is a Dayawansa Jayakodi publication.

 

 

 

 

 


Black Box Short Play festival

Black Box Theatre is a concept that promotes small theatre. It can house any kind of theatrical framework under any subject. Applications are now being enrolled for short theatre plays until March 15.

Plays can be presented in any medium. Directors should not use a large cast or stage sets. The minimum duration should be 15 minutes and the maximum should be 30 minutes. There will be an open forum at the end of each drama. The maximum seating for each show will be between 40 and 50.

Applications should be submitted to InterAct Theatre House, 133,48D Nanayakkara Mawatha, Obeysekarapura, Rajagiriya. Information can be obtained on 0773129749.
