Suspect in Rajagiriya double murder arrested

A Ukrainian national, a suspect in a double murder at Rajagiriya was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday. Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody told the Daily News that a domestic assistant and a seven-year-old boy were stabbed to death with a sharp weapon at Galpotta Road, Nawala, Rajagiriya at about 6.30 a.m yesterday. Another woman, who was injured by the suspect was admitted to the Kalubovila Hospital.

The suspect and his wife were arrested at 11.00 a.m. when they attempted to leave the country. The Welikada Police are conducting investigation.

Meanwhile, a driver of a lorry died when his vehicle collided head on with a private bus at the Fourth Milepost at Morawewa on Trincomalee-Horovpathana main road. The victim Sellaiyah Shanmugam (65) of Anpulipuram died on admission to the Trincomalee Hospital. The driver of the private bus was arrested by the Morawewa Police.
