Govt to ban anti Sri Lankan INGOs

International Non-Governmental Organizations that engage in anti Sri Lankan activities or have links with elements conspiring against Sri Lanka would be banned following investigations, Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services Minister Rishard Bathiudeen told the daily news yesterday.

He said the Government has reasons to believe that certain INGOs are enaged in acts of sabotage against the Sri Lankan State.

The Government had launched a series of investigations to trace the INGO s that had been connected to these activities and their members found guilty will be deported, Bathiudeen said. According to sources, over 50 INGO s are engaged in humanitarian missions in Sri Lanka.

The Minister said the Government appreciates the contribution of most INGOs towards the country’s development as well as the rehabilitation and resettlement activities of the war affected areas.
