Galvanized sheets from India

Sri Lanka has received another consignment (1,936 metric tons) of galvanized roofing sheets from the Indian Government for the the benefit of the IDPs of the North, Economic and Commercial Counselor Indian High Commission Santosh Jha said.

The value of this consignment was $1,969,288 while the total value of all three consignments is $2.60 million – or Rs. 300 million.

He said the Indian government had agreed to donate 2,600 metric tons of galvanized sheets in stages and this was the third consignment that arrived in early February.

The first consignment of 265,000 galvanized roofing sheets was ceremonially handed over to Rehabilitation and Resettlement Minister Rishad Bathiudeen by Indian High Commissioner Ashok K. Kantha at Galle Face Green.

The consignment is now in the Port of Colombo and is being cleared. This time around the Indian High Commission officials would visit the areas of the North where the IDPs were being resettled and would take part in handing over the galvanized roofing sheets, he said.
