Appointment of Basil Rajapaksa as Gampaha UPFA Group Leader:

Boost for development - Ven. Kusaladhamma Nayake Thera

Gampaha District which is in need of massive development schemes has now received the proper leadership to make it happen with the appointment of Basil Rajapaksa as the district leader of the UPFA group contesting the forthcoming General election said the Chief Sanghanayake Thera of Colombo and Chilaw District and Chancellor Kelaniya University Ven. Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma.

The prelate said so delivering an anusasana when Senior Presidential Advisor and Leader of the UPFA group contesting the general election from the Gampaha district Basil Rajapaksa called on him at the Peliyagoda Vidyalankara Privena accompanied by Mrs. Pushpa Rajapaksa and received his blessing soon after handing over nomination papers at the Gampaha Kachcheri on Monday.

Ven. Kusaladhamma Thera said it was he who requested the President to field Basil Rajapaksa at Gampaha at the General Election as the UPFA group leader. But the President at first seemed reluctant to release him saying he had no one else to overlook development work at national level. This clearly proved the sheer ability, strength and efficiency in Basil Rajapaksa.

Ven. Kusaladhamma said Peliyagoda Vidyalankara Pirivena was a foremost seat of learning which had rekindled the nation throughout history. The Maha Sangha at Vidyalankara had always provided advice and leadership specially to the stalwarts in the progressive camp in this country.

Seeking the blessings of the Maha Sangha before venturing into any program of work had been a tradition among the Rajapaksa family.

It was a good omen and a happy occasion to see Basil Rajapaksa and Mrs. Rajapaksa following in those footsteps and seeking the blessing of the Maha Sangha before beginning their election campaign.

Gamapha district had finally received a proper leadership to usher in development and progress with Basil Rajapaksa’s advent as he is the driving force behind the Mahinda Chinthana Idiri Dekma program aimed to transform Sri Lanka into a leading developed nation in the region.

Several other UPFA candidates in the Gampaha district were also present on the occasion.
