Chaya an artistic photographic exhibition will be held at the Lionel Wendt art gallery on March 6 and 7. The photographs which depict 50 striking images taken from day to day life incident in a new angle are clicked on camera by Dr Jeewaranga Gunasekera.

A past pupil of Ananda College, Colombo, Dr Gunasekera had completed his degree at the Faculty of Medicine in Colombo University. He is currently waiting for his internship appointment and working as a freelance photographer.

“I always believe human presence makes a big impact on a photograph. Images can be taken while posing in a studio spontaneously amidst nature. I hardly make a difference to the result. Apart from basic colour balancing I do not manipulate my photographs. I have always tried to convey a message to the viewer from all of my pictures,” Dr Gunasekera who hails from Kottawa and vies to become a psychiatrist said.

He also had a passion for music and has a Diploma in Vocal music from Bhathkhande University, India, to his name. He had ventured to the Western music sector as a vocalist and bassist while forming a band with a few medicos. He is also interested in philosophy and Buddhist philosophy.

The opening ceremony of his solo exhibition will take place on March 5 at 3 p.m. Entrance free.
