Russian Minister reiterates support for Cuba
CUBA: Our position of supporting Cuba is firm and unchanging,
assured in Havana the Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov, who
began a visit to the island on Thursday.
We share a very strong human ties, which is a solid foundation for
friendly relations, said the Minister when was received at the
headquarters of his counterpart Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez.
Lavrov described as positive the commercial, economic and cultural
ties between the two countries while highlighting the development of the
collaboration in university education and tourism.
Cuba and Russia share common ideals attached to the principles of
international law that is why our position against the economic,
commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against
Cuba for almost half a century, he said.
Rodriguez described as excellent and special the fraternal ties with
Russia in the year of the 50th anniversary of the reestablishment of
diplomatic relations. There have been five decades of brotherhood
between both peoples, we will never forget its generous contribution to
our development” the Cuban minister said.
He noted the coincidences in many issues in the international arena
and in particular Moscow’s position regarding the US blockade.
We perceive a huge potential in the relations between a large country
like Russia and a small one like Cuba, he stated and considered this
friendship a model of how international relations should be in these
difficult times.
Both ministers signed three documents: the first one, a plan of
political consultations between the two Foreign Ministries for
2010-2011, which seeks to strengthen existing links.
The second document is a joint statement on the commemoration of the
65th Anniversary of the victory over fascism which emphasizes the
historical significance of the fact, the purpose of contributing to
peace efforts worldwide.
While the third one is the signing of a declaration, in occasion of
the 50th anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic ties.
