Anyone violating law must be penalized - PM

The law is above all and everyone should abide by the law, Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka said.


Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka opened the new computer unit of Thalagala Junior school, Horana. Here the Premier in conversation with a student. Provincial Council member Vidura Wickramanayaka looks on.

Speaking at a function to admit Grade one students to Thalagala Junior school, the Prime Minister said the period where the jungle law flourished is no more.

"Whoever violates the law must be penalized. No one can work arbitrarily to fulfill their sinister purposes by utilizing their power in the society. The Government will never allow anybody to tarnish Sri Lanka's image," he said.

The Prime Minister said when some countries insisted to make our policies according to their agendas, we undertook our own method to develop the country.

"Doors are open for those who work honestly for the country's development. We should love our Motherland really and not deceive the people. If we don't love country how can we love the people, the Premier queried.

"We have close ties with emerging economies. That is why we have a good relationship with Russia. All countries who respect our sovereignty are invited to have ties with us," he said.

Premier Wickramanayaka said under this Government, no schools were closed in Horana.

"If all remote schools are equipped with latest technology, there will be no need to send children to urban schools. All schools will be developed," he said.

Western Provincial Council member Vidura Wickramanayaka and school principal Y. Ananda also spoke.
