Trishaw robber nabbed

A noted criminal involved in the robbery of yet another trishaw was nabbed by the police with a bomb to boot in his possession on Tuesday evening in Kelawela, Mt. Lavinia, police said.

Police spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody said acting on information, a special team from the Mt. Lavinia police arrested the suspect along with a hand grenade at his residence in Mahal Complex, Kelawela.

The suspect has been involved in stealing three-wheelers and many other crimes.

“During the inquiry it was revealed that the suspect had stolen three trishaws, engaged in house breaking and theft and many other crimes in the Wadduwa, Panadura, Moratuwa, Moragahahena and Bandaragama areas,” he added. He said many stolen items were also recovered from the suspect’s possession.

There is a number of warrants issued against the suspect in cases pending at the Moratuwa, Panadura and Bandaragama Magistrate courts. The suspect was produced before the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate and remanded till February 22.

Mt. Lavinia police are investigating.
