UNP to contest under Elephant symbol

The Executive Committee of the UNP yesterday decided to contest the upcoming general election under the United National Front without changing the party’s symbol – the Elephant.

According to UNP media spokesman Gayantha Karunathilake, the UNP Executive Committee has taken this decision after considering a request made by its district chairmen that the party should contest the election under the Elephant Symbol.

He said the Executive Committee had discussed the formation of the Nominations Board to select candidates for the general election.
