DIG thanks election staff

Senior DIG (elections) Gamini Navaratne yesterday thanked the security forces, police, state officials and all others who helped to ensure a fair and peaceful Presidential election.

He said although certain forces including several NGOs alleged that the election was not fair and peaceful such allegations had proved futile.

All groups which monitored the election have reaffirmed that except for a few minor incidents the election was generally fair and peaceful.
