Government to woo Opposition voters
The Presidential election once again proved there
was vibrant democracy in the country. President Mahinda Rajapaksa
polled nearly 60 percent of the votes while the NDF candidate Sarath
Fonseka polled approximately 40 percent of the vote, SLFP General
Secretary and Agriculture and Mahaweli Development Minister
Maithripala Sirisena said yesterday.

To change Constitution:
Government aiming for two-thirds
The Government will give a time period around
one week for the Opposition to offer a two thirds majority in
Parliament to change the present Constitution. If they fail to do
so, the Government will dissolve Parliament at the right time and
hold the General Election on schedule to obtain the two thirds
majority, Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said.

Opposition confirms polls fair
It was a very free and fair election as
confirmed by the poll observers of the Commonwealth, UNP and
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and the SLMC leader, Public
Administration and Home Affairs Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama said
at the UPFA press conference at the BMICH yesterday.
