Clear verdict of progressive people - Power Minister

Power and Energy Minister and Senior SLFP Vice President W. D. J. Seneviratne said the historic victory achieved by President Mahinda Rajapaksa is an endorsement of a clear verdict of the progressive people given against local and international conspiracies aimed at breaking the country into pieces after it was liberated from the scourge of terrorism.

“Despite the fact that our country made every effort after Independence in 1948 to travel along the path of progress as a free nation it has achieved only recently by ending 30 years of terrorism by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Therefore, the grateful people of this country have lent their support to the President by ensuring a landslide victory at far him at the Presidential Election.

This is a unique victory achieved by any Head of State in world history. Former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill who played a major role in the World War II victory lost at the very first election that followed the World War II. But our President has secured 57.88 percent of the people’s verdict after fighting the war to victory and while engaging in development activities.

It is also usual for heads of states to secure a lesser mandate at the second term of Office. But in the case of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. This has proved otherwise with the massive 57.88 percent at the second term from its 50.29 percent at the first team.

He said the vision of President Mahinda Rajapaksa with over 40 years experience has helped fulfil the aspirations of our people. This will help our country in its march, towards progress and prosperity. “I therefore, thank and congratulate every patriotic Sri Lankan who contributed to this great victory,” Minister Seneviratne stated.
