Men’s Open Golf C’ship:
Stiff battle between Raj and Rohana today
Richard DWIGHT
In the penultimate day yesterday in the four-day Men’s Open Golf
Championship at the RCGC - witnessed the number of eligible golfers
competing in the 3rd round and today’s 4th round being brought down to
42.
Professional, Anura Rohana, a former champion did extremely well to
lead, when on the opening day had a one under par 70 and, led on the
second day as well, with a brilliant 5 under par 66.
Though still holding onto the leader position after the 3rd round,
Rohana did not fare that well to strike a 4 over par 75 to have an
aggregate 211, with yet another round to be played today.
Closing in on veteran, Rohana, to pressurise him in the up and coming
Water’s Edge golfer, N. Thanga Raj unlike Rohana, Thanga Raj has been
consistent enough to play steady golf where his scores have been one
over par 72, 2 over par 73 and a par 71, which gives him an aggregate of
216, that makes him 5 shots away from Rohana. That which is most
remarkable of Thanga Raj, of Water’s Edge, is that he took to golf only
one and half years ago.
There will therefore be a stiff competition in the fourth round today
between Rohana and Thanga Raj.
Others in line to be in contention for championship honours are
Lalith Kumara 220, M. A Arumugam 220, Wijitha Bandara 221 and Tiss
Chandradasa 221 being their respective aggregate scores after 3 rounds |
