President Mahinda Rajapaksa will score a remarkable victory over Sarath Fonseka at the forthcoming Presidential Election, according to the results of an independent survey on National Development and Social Attitudes conducted by the Kelaniya University.

Big employment drive pledged

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said the Government will provide more than 200,000 jobs to youth within the first few months of this year. The President stressed that the Government has already drawn up plans to provide these jobs to Sri Lankan youth in foreign countries.

Presidential Candidate Sarath Fonseka has insulted people’s intelligence by using the LTTE bomb attack on him in one of his election propaganda advertisements, said Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.

Minimum Samurdhi payment increased

The minimum Samurdhi payment will be increased up to Rs 1,000 while Rs 1,500 will be paid to every child in a Samurdhi family bellow the age of three. A low interest loan of Rs 100,000 will be provided to Samurdhi families to run a business.
