Road accidents claim two

At least two persons were killed and two others injured in road accidents in Akuressa and Ratnapura on Wednesday.

A youth was killed and two others were injured when a cab collided with a motorcycle at the 63rd Milepost in Morawaka opposite the Agricultural Centre on Wednesday evening, Police Spokesman SSP I.M. Karunaratne said.

"A cab plying from Morawaka to Akuressa along the Deniyaya-Akuressa Road collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction," he added.

The injured motorist died after admission to Morawaka Hospital. The deceased was identified as Danushka Mihiran (22) from Dolosbage Road in Gampola. Meanwhile, a pedestrian was killed after being knocked down by a motorcyclist in Godawela on Wednesday.

A victim aged 77 was killed on the spot. The motorcyclist taken into custody.
