The Government has taken all measures to ensure security in the
country on the day of the Presidential Election, Media Minister Lakshman
Yapa Abeywardena said.
He urged the public to be vigilant during the next few days and pay
special attention to the safety of their National Identity Cards and
similar documents. Although there are efforts to create fear among the
masses, the Government will not allow any violence to take place. The
Government does not need violence to mar its clear victory.
Addressing a press briefing held at his office yesterday, Minister
Yapa Abeywardena said that according to the surveys conducted by
universities, Indian companies and local private companies President
Mahinda Rajapaksa will get a resounding victory.
The environment existed during the commencement of the election
campaign has now completely changed and the President won the support of
all urban communities and provincial business communities. All
non-committed voters have decided to support the President after hearing
how the Presidential Candidate of the Opposition speaks in public.
He said that in all incidents that took place all over the country
during past few weeks it is obvious that the JVP and the UNP were behind
all those incidents.
The Government will not allow violence to take place. It has already
arrested the culprits who broke the law and committed offences. |
