Forged ballots marked with 'swan' detected

Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (Elections) Gamini Navaratne said Pettah Police had recovered two parcels containing 22,000 forged ballot papers with the marking of General Sarath Fonseka's symbol Swan.

Senior DIG Navaratne addressing the media yesterday evening at the IGP's headquarters said these two parcels containing forged ballot papers were detected by two Police personnel attached to the Pettah Police, which were ready for despatch to the Puttalam District.

Senior DIG appealed to the public if they have any information of such forged documents being prepared to bring it to the notice of the nearest police station over Telephone number 119.

Criminal Investigation Department DIG Nandana Munasinghe said they have taken three persons into custody who had attempted to assassinate the President with the assistance of a Tamil politician who is now living abroad.
