SLIIT offers students unique business degree program

One of the most significant aspects of this degree program is presented through its courses and subject combinations, some of which are the only business modules taught in Sri Lanka, allowing students to gain an in-depth knowledge in areas such as quality management, strategic marketing, international business

Sri Lanka is presently recovering from a war which has plagued the country for nearly thirty years, and this provides ample opportunities for emerging specialists in the field of business to address the rising issues and needs of the development sector, a necessary venture in order to bring the nation on par with global progress.

The current business climate in Sri Lanka requires dynamic individuals who possess the necessary skills to meet the challenges of emerging trends in the industry.

The Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) recognizes the importance and viability not only of producing IT professionals in the country, but also of gearing students to meet the demands of a constantly evolving business environment through its unique business programme, the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Business Management, which is jointly conducted with SLIIT’s prestigious long-standing affiliate, Sheffield Hallam University, UK.

The business degree offered by Sheffield Hallam University (SHU), UK provides a vital pathway for SLIIT students to explore their potential within the sphere of business. Students have the option of either completing the full course at SLIIT or partially at both SLIIT and SHU, UK. Upon completion, they are eligible to apply for work permits in the United Kingdom or for scholarships to pursue a Masters degree in their chosen field of specialization.

One of the most significant aspects of this degree programme is presented through its courses and subject combinations, some of which are the only business modules taught in Sri Lanka, allowing students to gain an in-depth knowledge in areas such as quality management, strategic marketing, international business and managing the development and implementation of information systems effectively.

According to Dr. Theekshana Suraweera, Head of Business and Information Management, the unique degree at the Sheffield Business School not only focuses on teaching the subject matter, but also places much needed emphasis on employability skills as well. The course units or subjects taught at SLIIT and SHU target emerging areas in the current industry. “This course is not entirely theoretically focused.

It provides a more practical approach where students go out and gain first-hand experience in the field, enabling them to identify future needs and progressively contribute to the improvement of these issues”. A strong focus on the English language is also a key component.

The highly reputed Sheffield Business School complies with UK standards and highlights quality assurance and the services of an admirably qualified faculty. The cost factor also provides incentives for SLIIT students to gain exposure and expand their horizons within a diverse milieu. SLIIT is proud to be associated with one of the UK’s finest universities, meeting the demands of the challenging business environment and paving the way for the future generation of academics.
