I am ahead, says Sarath Fonseka
Though my rival Mahinda Rajapaksa has a 40 year political history, I
am ahead of him in the political campaign by now, said New Democratic
Front candidate Sarath Fonseka at an election rally held at Warakapola
last Friday.
“I have a very short-term political history and a long-term
experience in public service,” he added. Continuing he said: “Mahinda
Rajapaksa too is said to have a military life.
He is said to have played the role of an Army Officer for a few days.
Under these circumstances it is useless to compare my service to the
country with that of Mahinda Rajapaksa. People have realised who has
sincerely served the country.” He also said that after his victory he
would create a Parliament answerable to the people and would bring a
Constitution that would do justice to the people by utilising the
two-thirds power in Parliament.
He also said that he was endeavouring to raise the percentage of
votes polled to 80 percent and that he was confident that Mahinda
Rajapaksa would lose even his deposit.
UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing the rally said that
Fonseka would bring an Act in Parliament to safeguard the rights of
women. |
