The Government is ready to provide new technological vistas to the
people in the Estate sector who were destined to pluck tea leaves and
prepare rotti, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa, addressing an election
rally organized by Minister Arumugam Thondaman at the Kotagala PS
grounds yesterday.
The President said the children in the Estate sector are being
equipped with IT knowledge to stand on par with the students in foreign
countries.
He said the dividends of development should go to all parts of the
country equally.
“We are ready to provide the latest technological know-how to the
people in the Estate sector who are playing a pivotal role in
strengthening our economy,” he said.
While commending the services of late Minister Saumyamurthi Thondaman
and Minister Arumugam Thondaman to uplift of living standards of the
people in the Estate sector, the President said the Government is always
ready to lend an ear to the problems of Trade Unions.
He said the Government is willing to discuss the issues and the
problems faced by the working class.
The President added the Government cannot accept the conduct of
certain trade unions which have deviated from their original policy of
serving their fellow members.
He said this type of Trade Unions are betraying the working masses to
achieve narrow and petty political gains.
The President said the Government has upgraded the infrastructure
facilities in the Estate sector during the past four years. The
Government was able to uplift the living condition of Estate workers and
these programs are continuing unabated, he said. |
