Honduran putschists attack opposition editor
Honduras: Honduran de facto regime forces attacked El Libertador
daily Editor Rene Novoa, when he was travelling in a taxi to this
capital's central area, the mentioned newspaper reported.
Army members and police agents made Novoa and his companion, whose
name was not revealed due to security reasons, get off of a car beating
them in the street.
"They crushed us with no motives. When I wanted to check how my
fellow traveler was, a military man beat me in the stomach and left me
on the floor. I was not able to breath for a few seconds," said Novoa.
El Libertador daily condemned the brutality of the security forces,
which have been suppressing people and the media opposed to the coup
since it was perpetrated on June 28.
Jhonny Lagos, the newspaper's director, was threatened by dictator
Roberto Micheletti, forcing him to remain clandestine, and reporter
Delmer Membre¤o was kidnapped and tortured, and is currently living in
exile.
