Selected as the Champion athlete:

H. Padmini of Kegalle District Masters Athletic Association won four gold medals, 400m, 800m, 1500m and 3000m and broke her own record in the 1500 m race at the 4th All Island Kegalle District Masters open Championships and was selected as the Champion Athlete, held at the Kegalle Public Esplanade recently.

Last year H. Padmini represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Masters games in Thailand and won two silver medals, one gold medal and one bronze medal. Prior to this she also represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Masters games which was held in Bangalore in India and won one gold medal and two silver medals.

About 14 countries took part in this Asian Masters Games. She also holds the record for the 1500m. She is the present Athletic captain of the Kegalle District Masters Athletic Association. She was a student at Kegalle Balika Maha Vidyalaya and Pitiagedara Vidyalaya.

As a student she represented the school at the Kegalle District Meets and won all her three events. Later she took part at the All Island School meet in Colombo and was placed in her events and brought honour to her school and to the District.

If she had a good coach and facilities she would have become another Susantha Jayasinghe from Kegalle Disrict.

Her future ambition is to represent Sri Lanka at the coming Masters Games which will be held in December 2010 in Malaysia and to win four gold medals for the Kegalle District and for Sri Lanka.

Minister of Sports was the Chief Guest at the All Island Championship Meet and the Chief Minister of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council was the Guest of Honour.
