H. Padmini wins four gold medals

H. Padmini of Kegalle District Masters Athletic Association won four
gold medals, 400m, 800m, 1500m and 3000m and broke her own record in the
1500 m race at the 4th All Island Kegalle District Masters open
Championships and was selected as the Champion Athlete, held at the
Kegalle Public Esplanade recently.
Last year H. Padmini represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Masters games
in Thailand and won two silver medals, one gold medal and one bronze
medal. Prior to this she also represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Masters
games which was held in Bangalore in India and won one gold medal and
two silver medals.
About 14 countries took part in this Asian Masters Games. She also
holds the record for the 1500m. She is the present Athletic captain of
the Kegalle District Masters Athletic Association. She was a student at
Kegalle Balika Maha Vidyalaya and Pitiagedara Vidyalaya.
As a student she represented the school at the Kegalle District Meets
and won all her three events. Later she took part at the All Island
School meet in Colombo and was placed in her events and brought honour
to her school and to the District.
If she had a good coach and facilities she would have become another
Susantha Jayasinghe from Kegalle Disrict.
Her future ambition is to represent Sri Lanka at the coming Masters
Games which will be held in December 2010 in Malaysia and to win four
gold medals for the Kegalle District and for Sri Lanka.
Minister of Sports was the Chief Guest at the All Island Championship
Meet and the Chief Minister of the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council was
the Guest of Honour.
