The Central Provincial National Craft Council commenced collecting data of craft professionals scattered in the Province.

Information of craftsmen will be collected through Provincial Secretaries of the area.

New varieties of onions

The Agriculture Department has introduced new varieties of big onions and red onions.

These are identified as ‘Dambulu Selection’ and ‘Kittaweli Resi’.

Big onions are the most valuable cash crop in Sri Lanka. However lack of high quality seeds is the main problem that Sri Lankan farmers have to face.

So the Government has to import seeds at a high cost. Quality of these imported seeds are poor. Therefore the Government has to import huge amounts of big onions.
