Help sought to nab

The Police Department yesterday sought public assistance to trace Ven Dambara Amila Thera's driver who was accused of obtaining money from unsuspected individuals to provide jobs in Korea.

The Thera's driver, Vishan Janith Wellalage of Ballapitiya, Horana is absconding Police arrest.

According to Police Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police I.M. Karunaratne, the CID has received three out of 15 complaints against Ven Amila Thera for swindling over Rs 400,000 belonging to three persons.

He said three persons have complained to the CID that Ven Dambara Amila Thera obtained their money and duped them by promising employment in Korea

SSP Karunaratne said the Thera had left the country after the CID received these complaints. The IGP had himself informed the Thera to give a statement to the CID over this issue on his return to the country.

He added that the Thera did not turn up to the Department and was arrested due to his failure to give a statement to the CID on December 27.

The CID after recording evidence from the complainants has upheld that the Thera in question is directly responsible for three complaints, he said.

Three complainants - Upul Waruna Kumara, Dhammika Kumara and Pradeep Manaranjana have lodged complaints to the CID against the Thera, SSP Karunaratne said.
