Spielberg to visit Lanka
Globally acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg had agreed to visit Sri
Lanka due to an invitation extended by Sri Lanka’s award winning film
producer and director Chandran Rutnam. The maker of hit movies like
‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘Jaws’, ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’, ‘E.T. the
Extra-Terrestrial’ and ‘Jurassic Park’ worked with Rutnam 25 years ago
in ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’ which was shot in Sri Lanka.

The duo met at a gala dinner held at the Beverley Hilton Hotel,
California, on December 9. The event was held to honour Spielberg with
America’s Democratic Legacy Award presented by the anti-Defamation
League.
Former Universal Studios Chairman Sid Sheinberg, Harold Brown, Bruce
Ramer, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Robert Sugarman, Abraham Foxman and other
leading characters in Hollywood organized the felicitation.
Richard Dreyfess, Drew Barrymore, Noa Dori, Krik Douglas and
Sheinberg made speeches, appreciating Spielberg’s creations and his role
as a humanitarian.
During the course of the evening, while engaging in conversation,
Spielberg requested a personal viewing of Alimankada, Rutnam’s latest
film which is screening at the CEL circuit islandwide.
