Eleven Stars soccer champs

Eleven Starts Sports Club, Sainthamarathu carried away the 'Golden Trophy' when they beat the Maligaikadu Super Sonic Sports Club by 3 goals to 1 in the final at the Kalmunai Zahira College grounds on Sunday.

Six teams participated at this tournament, organised by the Sports Federation of Sainthamarthu in conjunction with the District Football Welfare Association.

In the semi-finals Super Sonic Sports Club beat Victorious on a penalty shoot out while the Eleven Stars beat Zahirian by 3 goals to 1.

The Eleven Stars went into the lead when M. Manaf scored a beautiful goal from the mid field. Just before the first half M. Rafeek added one more goal to give the winners a 2-0 lead at the short whistle.

On changing ends the Super Sonic SC played with determination and reduced the lead through A. C. M. Cassim.

A last minute effort to equalise the game proved fruitless against the Eleven Star's custodian Asfak Ahamed who did a grand job between the post.

The Director of Al-Ameen Sri Lanka, M. A. M. Mansoor was the chief guest and distributed the awards.
