Fashion Designing Faculty for Moratuwa Campus

The Higher Education Ministry has taken steps to establish a new
faculty for Textile and Fashion Designing at the University of Moratuwa
aiming to cater to the increasing demand in the textile and fashion
designing field, Higher Education Minister Professor Viswa Warnapala
said.

Apart from those initiatives, moves are under way to establish
departments for Textile and Fashion Designing in Kandy, Colombo and
Galle at the Sri Lanka Institutes of Advanced Technical Education (SLIATEs).
The Higher Education Ministry has been taking steps to diversify the
higher education sector during the last few years to meet global trends.
The Ministry will introduce the textile and fashion Designing program
with the assistance of London College of Fashions, Professor Warnapala
added.
"There is a massive demand for Textile and Fashion designing
professionals throughout the world.
Sri Lanka is no exception", he further said.
Sri Lanka has been engaging in the textile manufacturing process for
many years. But the opportunities are minimum for our workforce to
become professionals in the textile sector. In addition, SLIATE
institutes are scheduled to be developed by a World Bank project called
"Higher Education for the 21st Century".
Under this project new SLIATE institutes will be established in
Vavuniya, Ratnapura and Tangalle. Moves are under way to revise the
existing traditional higher education policies and syllabi. |
