Irresponsible statement:

Govt will face situation systematically

Mass Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said yesterday that the Government would face the situation created as a result of the irresponsible statement by retired General Sarath Fonseka systematically.

The Minister speaking at the weekly Cabinet press briefing said the Government had to respond to the United Nations demand for an explanations on the interview published in a Sunday newspaper although Fonseka later stated that he had been misquoted.

The Minister in reply to a question by a journalist totally denied this situation was a scheme by the government and asserted that the present government would not come down to such a low level to gain political mileage.

Politics is not a ground for taking revenge, he said.
