The artistes who predicted victory for President Mahinda Rajapaksa at
the Presidential Election without any challenge, made this observation
at a press conference at Nippon Hotel to respond to certain allegations
levelled against the participants of the advertisement.
Film director Somaratne Dissanayake categorically denying the
allegation said they never asked in the advertisement to vote for a
particular person at the Presidential Election but requested only to
vote for an experienced and suitable person who stood for the country,
nation, culture and unity. He said those who are worried about the
advertisement could be persons who are opposed to these sentiments.
Dissanayake stated that those artistes and the sportsmen were
sensitive to national issues and none of them charged any fee to take
part in the advertisement.
He said only President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Commander in Chief
could claim the right of victory of war but he never said that it was
his victory but that it belonged to all including all the forces,
clergy, artistes, media and people of this country.
Dissanayake queried as to how could people place power in the hands
of such a person who claimed the right of the victory of war was his own
forgetting the Navy, Air Force, Police and other Security Forces and his
Commander in Chief, the people in the country and artistes who him
supported the war.
Actor Buddhi Wickrama addressing the media expressed his suspicion of
the motives of the supporters of the Opposition candidate recalling the
legend of Suba and Yasa.
Tharunyata Hetak Secretary Lalith Piyum Perera and artistes Renuka
Balasooriya, Senaka Wijesinghe, Kusum Perera, Sriyantha Mendis, Anton
Jude and Sandun Wijesiri also spoke.
