Project to upgrade 150 schools
Priority for 30 schools in the North:

A new project to establish at least one privileged school in every
Divisional Secretariat area has been started by the Education Ministry.
The Ministry will establish 30 Isuru Pasal (Schools which have better
facilities) in the Northern part on priority basis of the country,
Education Minister Susil Premajayanth said.
Under this project five Isuru Pasal will be established in the Jaffna
district. The Government will spend Rs. 35 million to upgrade a school
as a Isuru Pasal aiming to offer similar education opportunities on par
with students in every part of the country.
In accordance with 10 year Education Sector Development Program, the
Education Ministry has taken action to construct 150 more Isuru Pasal at
a cost of Rs. 5,250 million.
These Isuru Pasal are to be established throughout the country.
Additionally it was expected, as a final outcome, the Isuru Pasal
will reduce student congestion prevailing in certain privileged schools
situated especially in urban areas.
The Isuru Pasal project commenced in 2007 targeting to offer equal
education opportunities for all children while considering to reduce the
high demand for certain schools.
Under this Isuru Pasal Project, a complete school which has all
resources and facilities is being established in every education
division or divisional secretariat division.
