Maharagama Motor Cross was a success

Mahargama Motor Cross 2009 recently organised by Maharagama Sports
Club, Sri Lanka Army Motor Sports Committee, and Sri Lankan Racing
Riders Association was held recently at the newly built Moto Cross track
adjoining to the Maharagama Sports Complex Navinna.
This is the first ever Motor Cross held in Maharagama.
The inaugural ceremony of the sports tamasha was held under the Urban
Development and Sacrad Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
This cross consisted of 13 events for children, veterans and
amateurs.
Two veteran Indian Motor Cross racing riders also participated.
The results of the events are as follows:
Event No. 1 - Kids upto 55cc - Under 10: 1. Binuka Kithalagama, 2.
Induwara A. Senadeera, 3. Thimila Leesane Daminda.
Event No. 2 - street trail up to 125: 1. Nuwan Dissanayake, 2. Lahiru
Jeevan, 3. Shanuka Jayana.
Event No. 3 - Racing upto 85 under 13: 1. Emantha Upamal Siriwardena,
2. Jaden Gunawardena, 3. Jacques Gunawardane.
Event No. 4 - Racing upto 125cc: 1. Ishan Dissanayake, 2. Ushan
Rajith Silva, 3. Shehan A. Adidkari.
Event No. 5 - Street trail upto 250: 1. Shemaika Roshan, 2. Lahiru
Jeevantha, 3. Rajith Samaraweera.
Event No. 6 - Racing upto 125 National: 1. Sampath Kumara, 2. Ishan
Dissanayake, 3. Nuwan Dassanayake.
Event No. 7 - Racing upto 85 under 16: 1. Shehan Adikari, 2. Shanuka
Jayaratne, 3. Uditha Dinesh Solanki.
Event No. 8 - Racing upto 125 International: 1. C.S. Santhos (India),
2. Ishan Dassanayke. 3. Pasidu Peiris.
Event No. 9 - Kids upto 55cc under 10: 1. Bimula Kithalagama, 2.
Iduwara A. Senadeera, 3. Thimila Leesane Daminda.
Event No. 10 - Racing upto 88cc - under 16: 1. Shehan Adikari, 2.
Uditha Dinish Solanke, 3. Imal Manchanayake.
Event No. 11 - Racing upto 85 - under 13: 1. Imantha Siriwardana, 2.
Jaden Gunawardana, 3. Thimila Lesesane Daminda.
Event No. 12 - Street trail open: 1. Shantha Roshan Wickramarachchi,
2. Sampath Kumara, 3. Rajith Samaraweera.
Event No. 13 - Racing open: 1. C.S. Santhos (India), 2. Nuwan
Dassanayake, 3. Ishan Dissanayake.
Altogether 80 competitors took part in the tourney.
The awards presentation was held with the association of the
President of Maharagama Sports Club Janaka Periyapperuma, Sports
Secretary Dinuka Chandraratne.
The President of Sri Lanka Army Motor Sports Committee and Brigadier
- Ravi Mayadunne, Veteran Sportsman and Consultant of the Motor-Cross
track Shehan Gunawardana and the President of Sri Lankan Racing Riders
Association T. Ragunathan.
The funds collected will be utilized to construct a Pavilion for
Maharagama Sports Complex and rehabilitation purpose of war heroes.
