Entries pouring in for Oman Air golf
S.M. Jiffrey Abdeen Kandy Sports Corr. at Victoria
Over 60 golfers have so far entered the inaugural Oman Air Stableford
Golf Championship organised by the Victoria and Country Resort and
sponsored by the newest player in the Airline Business Oman Air which
will be worked off at the picturesque Victoria golf course at Rajawella
off Kandy on Saturday commencing at 7 a.m.
But the total number of competitors is bound to increase further in
the next few days, as there is always a last minute rush for entries
depending on the time available for the competitors during the festive
season.
The weather in the hills is wet and there is a good growth of grass
in the course which had been trimmed to set up challenges for the
golfers as excitement and challenges are an essential ingredient for
golf which is quite an expensive individual game.
Golfers will have to use all their experience to come to terms with
the course said the golfing General Manager of the Victoria Golf and
Country Resort Errol Johnston himself a reputed golfer who has been
playing the game both in Sri Lanka and abroad which has seen his
handicap being scaled down to 13 and with more competitions wins, this
will be sliced further. Despite the wet conditions, the Course Manager
Maheel Bulumulla has been on the job to shave off the excess grass where
necessary.
Some of the top golfers from Kandy who have entered this competition
so far are the winner of the Swedish Golf Classics 2009 Chamil
Wickremasinghe, Sujeewa Lankatillake, Ian Tait, Bo Lindberg, Veinert
Holm, Ravi Mediwake, Sam Gunaratne, Sirath Kasthuriratne, Errol
Johnston, Rolf Tibblin and among the ladies it will be Sonia Boyle, Tina
Hannsson, Lillian Perera, Pauline Morley, Manori Jayakoddy, Niloo
