President in Kandy
President Mahinda Rajapaksa will attend an Ashirwada Pooja at the
Maha Maluwa of the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy at 4 p.m. today at which
a group of nearly 3,000 members of the Maha Sangha will chant the Jaya
Piritha invoking blessings on him for his victory at the forthcoming
Presidential Election.
'World of difference between candidates'

There is a world of difference between President Mahinda Rajapaksa
and the Opposition candidate at the forthcoming Presidential Election.
President Rajapaksa is seeking your mandate with a massive six year
development plan in his hand while the other candidate is coming before
you with a request for a mere six month rule and without any tangible
plan of activity, Dean of the Faculty of Social Science, Peradeniya
University Dr. Wijitha Nanayakkara said.
"I can't understand the motive behind this request for a six month
rule.
"There is hardly any plan or program of action continued in it, he
said at a UPFA meeting held at Galaha, Delthota recently," he said.
SLMP offices to support President

Sri Lanka Mahajana Party (SLMP) Eheliyagoda branch will establish 100
election offices throughout the Eheliyagoda electorate to strengthen the
President Mahinda Rajapaksa's presidential election campaign.
Sabaragamuwa PC Social Services, Probation and Childcare, Rural
Development and Rural Industries Minister G.M. Karunapala said nearly
forty election offices have already been established.
Cyclist killed in accident

A cyclist who was badly injured in an accident with a moped motor
cycle at Sirigampala, Lunuwila succumbed to injuries on admission to the
Marawila hospital. The deceased is identified as J.K. Kingsly Perera
(40) of Dematapitiya, Lunuwila.
Wennappuwa Police has taken the rider and the moped motor cycle into
custody.
Get-together
The Hardy Alumni Association of the Ampara Hardy Advanced Technical
Institute will hold its members' annual get-together on December 19,
Saturday at the Professor Evan A. Hardy Centre, 511/1, Galle Road,
Ratmalana at 7.00 p.m.
Pre-Christmas sale
The annual pre-Christmas sale of Rotax Welfare Association will be
held on December 19 and 20 from 10.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. at the YMBA
Building, Wellawatte.
The Dharmaraja College, Colombo Branch Old Boys Union will hold its
Annual General meeting on December 19 at 5.00 p.m. at the Solis Hotel,
536, Kotte Road, Pita Kotte. All members and non members are invited.
The annual general meeting will be followed by a fellowship dinner and
an evening of entertainment.
SLLA Website launch
The new website of the Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) will be
launched at 4.30 p.m. on December 18 at the OPA Auditorium, Prof.
Stanley Wijesundara Mawatha, Colombo 7.
Organization of Professional Associations President Prof. A.D.V. de
S. Indraratne will be the chief guest. University of Colombo School of
Computing (UCSC) Director Dr. Ruvan Weerasinghe will be the guest of
honour.
Scientific session
The Sri Lanka Association for Study of Pain will hold its inaugural
scientific session titled relieving pain for a quality life on December
17 at 8 a.m. at Hotel Tourmaline, Kandy.
Three remanded
Matara police arrested three persons in connection with the murder of
a 25-year-old youth at Polhena, Matara on Monday.
The victim identified as Koparage Buddhika Prasanna was a fisherman.
The suspects were remanded by Matara Additional Magistrate Lasith
Chamath Madanayake.
Christmas party for Day Care Centre children
For 25 children from the Sunshine Day Care Centre in Sambalthivu,
Christmas 2009 will be a memorable experience and one that will stay
long in their minds as a magical Christmas.
The Chef’s Guild of Lanka invited the children to a tea-party
organized for them at Hilton Colombo with Santa Claus in attendance.
The Chef’s Guild which partnered with The Sunshine Charity to make
Christmas 2009 very special for the children entertained them with
games, Santa and food.
Supporting the initiative was an anonymous donor, a former student of
British School living in the US, who reached out to help by funding the
visit of the 25 children to Colombo. It is wonderful to know that young
Sri Lankans living overseas continue to think of those less fortunate
fellow citizens.
Stabbing of Divisional Secretary: four arrested

Police arrested four suspects in connection with the stabbing of the
Deraniyagala Divisional Secretary.
The DS was stabbed in the neck by an assailant through the window in
the District Secretariat premises at around 3 p.m. on Monday. Four
suspects arrested includes the person who allegedly wielded the knife.
The DS is currently receiving treatment at the Karawanella hospital.
All Divisional Secretaries in the Kegalle District boycotted work
yesterday as a mark of protest. Deraniyagala Police are investigating.
Fish mongers benefit

The Eheliyagoda Pradeshiya Sabha has adopted a resolution at its
monthly meeting to provide specific spots within the town limits for
outside fishmongers to sell sea fish and fresh water fish.
Tabling the motion Eheliyagoda PS Chairman Sarath Sandanaike said the
time has come to create a competitive background among local and outside
fishmongers to bring down prices for the benefit of consumers.
Accordingly the PS will provide a space for fish selling vehicle
owners to sell fish by obtaining a permit along old Kelani Velley rail
road between the hospital junction and the DS office.
