CSE records highest trading turnover for year

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) has recorded Rs 5.3 billion, the
highest daily trading turnover for the year, yesterday. CSE, Manager -
Business Development, Tushara Jayaratne told the Daily News the CSE
recorded the highest daily trading turnover of Rs 5.3 billion since July
28, 2008 This was with the transactions of John Keells Holdings (JKH) at
the end of trading yesterday.
The All Share Price Index closed at 3,089.45 up 0.41 percent (12.49
points) while the Milanka Price Index of more liquid stocks closed at
3,501.98, up 0.02 percent (0.87 points) yesterday.
"JKH had the total business of Rs 4.7 billion with the share closing
up Rs 1.00 to Rs 160.25 on volume of 29 million shares. The shares of
JKH were traded by a foreign fund on higher value who has been investing
in JKH for a long period," a broker told the Daily News.
He said 90 percent of the transactions took place in the CSE
yesterday were from the JKH while Commercial Bank has also shown an
increase in shares.
The CSE performance has been vital for the country's economy and it
had been performing well. The CSE has reached 90 percent of its
performance in transactions for this year. CSE will pick up in the
coming years, he said.
