SRAMO supports President’s candidature

Registered and Assistant Medical Officers Society (SRAMO) has declared its support for President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Presidential Election. Speaking at a Press Conference in Colombo yesterday the SRAMO Secretary Mahinda Liyanage said it was the duty of every citizen of this country to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He said that during three decades no leader or government could not wipe out terrorism. However, it was possible under President Rajapaksa’s able leadership.

Secretary Liyanage said SRAMO was an independent trade union and never involved in politics in its 59 years of existence. But, it is the national duty of every citizen of this country to support a person who liberated the country from terrorism. Liyanage said that he never thought that terrorism would be eliminated in his life time.

“President Mahinda Rajapaksa brought peace to the country. Now everyone was free to move without fear. “We must remember how we feared about children when they go to school,” he added.

SRAMO will support President Mahinda Rajapaksa. This will be the first and the last time for it to involve in the elections. The Executive Committee decided to vote the President and it would not participate in any elections thereafter, he said.

He pointed out that they would not canvass for the President during duty hours. But as citizens of this country these medical officers would work for him after office hours. He said there were 1,050 hospitals in the country and the SRAMO has selected 462 of them which consisted nearly 50,000 people.

Liyanage said nearly 2,500 members will visit homes and explain why they should support President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

SRAMO President Dr. K.M. Zahir, Dr. Janaka Pallewela, Dr. Aruna Bandara, Dr. Seetha P. Weerasekera also attended the press conference.
