SLRCS National Secretary completes term at Key Red Cross forum
The final report of the Disaster Relief and Preparedness Commission
of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies
(IFRC) was presented to its General Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya by
Chairman S.H. Nimal Kumar, who is also the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society
National Secretary. Presentation of the report to the 186 member
societies worldwide, marks completing the mission entrusted by the
General Assembly.
The elevation of Nimal Kumar to this post for four years at the IFRC
General Assembly held in 2005 in Seoul South Korea, made it the first
time in the annals of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society that it was
elected to this Red Cross Committee and its chairmanship of the
Asia-Pacific Region. The eight member Commission which met every six
months was responsible for policy making, strategic planning, evaluation
and monitoring pertaining to disaster management globally. It also
functioned as an Advisory Body to the International Federation Governing
Board. Nimal Kumar presented the progress of the Advisory Body at its
governing board session in addition to the commission meeting.
He also chaired the Council of Delegates sessions on Climate Change.
