Korea downgrades travel advisory
Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe with
Ambassador Asitha Perera and Rear Admiral Kim Dong-Kyun. |
Ambassador Asitha Perera thanked the Korean Government for
withdrawing the arms embargo on Sri Lanka as well as reducing the travel
advisory on Sri Lanka. The Ambassador reiterated this when Navy
Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe along with Rear Admiral Kim
Dong-Kyun (from the ROK Navy) and a delegation of Naval officers from
Korea and Sri Lanka paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador on Sunday.
Ambassador Perera said in consequence of the withdrawal of the
embargo imposed by Korea on Sri Lanka in consequence of being a
signatory to the WASAMA Agreement there would be considerable potential
for defence cooperation between the two countries in technology support,
software and hardware.
The Ambassador requested Vice Admiral Samarasinghe to seek the advice
and guidance of the Defence Secretary to look into the viability of
training and promoting Sri Lankan Naval personnel who have completed 12
years service to be given the opportunity to sit for the KLT examination
conducted by the Korean authorities in Sri Lanka thereby enabling them
to come to Korea and engage in the ship building industry.
Vice Admiral Samarasinghe assured the Ambassador that he would
consider positively suggestions made by him and as suggested, make the
necessary representations to the Defence Secretary. |
