Election will be most democratic

Minister
Patali Champika Ranawaka

The forthcoming Presidential Election will be the most democratic election but there were certain forces with past records of violence involved in the campaign.

There was no policy agreement among the various political parties in the Opposition campaign. They only agree when resorting to violence, the only common point among them, Environment and Natural Resources Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said at the JHU press conference yesterday. There was an attempt to start a spate of killings during the run up to the forthcoming Presidential Election like in 1993 and 1994 when a number of leaders like Lalith Athulathmudali, Ranasinghe Premadasa, Gamini Dissanayake and others were killed and certain foreign elements were involved.

Therefore, the public should be vigilant to prevent such things happening again now, he said.
