Sampath Bank 'Best Corporate Citizen of the Year 2009'

Sampath Bank won the 'Best Corporate Citizen of the Year 2009' awarded by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, a media release from the Bank said.

Throughout its trendsetting history, Sampath Bank demonstrated its unending commitment towards social obligations.

Going beyond the mere idea of charity and doing only business, Sampath Bank always performed as a socially far more responsible and sensitive corporate citizen who took every possible initiative and measure to make the lives of the people of this country better.

Sampath Bank revolved its corporate responsibility activities around four critical social spheres.

Grooming and uplifting the standard of entrepreneurs of semi-urban and rural segments, looking into various ways to upgrade the educational standards of the children of the country, taking every possible step to protect and nurture the natural world around us and providing basic infrastructure and means and initiatives to self - reliance for the community are the key areas they focused at all times.

This year Sampath Bank evidenced a smooth transition of their CSR endeavours from the transactional stage where they were heavily involved in voluntary projects to the transformational stage where they were able to influence the industry norms to address macro economic / social issues of the country.

Entering into deep partnerships with other stakeholders was a major highlight.

Especially with the transition, their priority was to develop the social sensitivity aspect of their employees, the release said.
