HNB to help Jaffna youth in finance and banking

Hatton National Bank (HNB) will uplift the standard of Banking and Finance education among youth in the Jaffna peninsula.

The Bank anticipates an increased demand for skilled and trained financial services sector professionals in the North and the East.

The HNB will cater to this requirement by providing school-leavers with the knowledge and exposure in banking and finance.

An academic program under, "Certificate in Elementary Banking and Finance" was launched recently at the HNB Chunnakam customer centre recently.

The course was inaugurated by Hatton National Bank MD/CEO Rajendra Theagarajah, in the presence of Human Resources and Administration DGM Regional Head - North East Region Senior A V Beadle, Manager Training and Development Senior Manager Mrs. M. Rambukwella and several senior lecturers from the University of Jaffna.

The course is provided free for selected candidates.

The course of study consists of four subjects namely Business of Banking, Accounting, Economics and Management and Organisation. The duration will be three months.

The uniqueness of this initiative is that it is the first time in the peninsula that video conferencing will be used as a support medium in youth education.

Hatton National Bank Managing Director/CEO Rajendra Theagarajah said, "Helping the youth in the North and the East to embark on careers related to the Financial Services sector could uplift the living standards of the community.
