Police personnel receive cash awards

Police Department is duty bound to reward police personnel who bring honour to the Police Department, Western Province Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka said.

He was speaking at the ceremony to reward police personnel who have brought honour to the Police Department. Mediwaka said the new concept of IGP Mahinda Balasuriya reward distribution could be done by the head of each Province without having at the Police Headquarters in future.

Seventy eight Police personnel attached to the Western Province West and North who have brought honour to the Police Department by arresting hardcore criminals, hard drug traffickers, received cash awards from Senior DIG Mediwaka at a special ceremony held at the Colombo DIG's office on Friday.

"Police officers work is a difficult task. Some times they have to work round the clock, on the highways. In the future rewards will be given within one month to those Police personnel who have brought honour to the department," he said.

The Police-Public relationship is vital to combat crimes in the country, DIG Herath said.
