Presidential poll:

Eight candidates pay deposits

Eight candidates contesting the Presidential polls have already forwarded their deposits to the Elections Commissioner.

The Elections Commissioner last week announced that the election will be held on January 26 and the nominations would be accepted on January 17 from 9.00 a.m. to 12 noon.

President Rajapaksa is expected to present an extended version of the Mahinda Chintana after submitting his nomination on January 17.

This is the first time a Government of independent Sri Lanka is presenting an extended version of its policy framework.

The Government has given top priority to all aspects of development under extended version of Mahinda Chintana.
