President in for historic victory - Minister

UNP, JVP alliance will fade into history:

President Mahinda Rajapaksa will achieve a unique and historic victory at the Presidential Election this time.

This will result in the annihilation of the UNP and the JVP. There will be internal party conflicts with their membership being badly disintegrated, Chief Government Whip and Minister Dinesh Gunawardene told a meeting held at Padukka recently.

“People want the Government to develop the country. President Rajapaksa has launched a massive nation building program after defeating terrorism. These developments are visible in all areas of the country in agriculture, power supply, industry and road development.

The Opposition is jealous of these activities. However the masses are well aware of these matters and they can’t be fooled any longer, the Minister said.

The Opposition talks of media freedom. How can they defend the media when they attack Rupavahini and ITN journalists at their UNP convention.

“If their attitude is this even before achieving power, any child could understand what they will be when in power. We can still recall the days when people like Richard de Soysa were killed during 1977-1994 period.

Real politics means principled politics based on a vision and program of action. Our Government is engaged in rebuilding the country on the basis of principles and visions. This helped us to defeat the terrorism.

We are now engaged in ensuring a decent livelihood to our people. We will not stop these welfare measures under any pressure or conspiracy.

This government will never allow our people to fall prey to any foreign or local pressure. We will face them courageously to protect the people and freedom of the country.

We will not allow anyone or any force to destroy democracy and human freedom.

Our people are aware of this and are eagerly looking forward see the day to vote for our President and ensure his landslide victory,” the Minister said.
