Spare the heroic Servicemen

National Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa yesterday asked Sarath Fonseka not to vilify and sling mud at the heroic Servicemen who took part in the final battle against the terrorists adding that as politicians they are prepared to take whatever dished out to them but to spare the heroic Servicemen.

He strongly condemned the charges hurled at former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda saying that the latter was one of the most capable and efficient Service Commanders that the country has seen.

Weerawansa said since the former Navy Commander did not do what he (Fonseka) did the latter was attacking on him.

Addressing media Weerawansa noted that when ships carrying arms were heading for our shores during the regime of Ranil Wickremesinghe it was he (Karannagoda) who opened fire on them even though there were no orders to do so.

“That is because he loved the country first before his ambition to become Navy Commander. When ultimately he assumed that post he even redoubled his efforts and dedication”.

Therefore whatever vilification should be directed at them who as politicians are able to stand those but not against such a gallant serviceman. “We are here because we have the capacity to take whatever is dished out,” he asserted.

He noted that Sarath Fonseka during his media briefing has admitted that he had no experience. This is borne out by his conduct.”An experienced politician will never utter such trash.Since he has no experience he is dancing to the tune of the UNP and the JVP,” the MP charged.
