Kandy welcomes SB move

People in Kandy and suburbs lit crackers when they heard the news of S. B. Dissanayake joining the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, our Kandy South Group Correspondent S. M. Jiffrey Abdeen reported.

Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake said Dissanayake joining the SLFP has struck a deadly and painful blow on the UNP as he was held in high esteem and commanded respect from the people for his forthrightness.

At the last Central Provincial Council polls, Dissanayake secured over 180,000 perefential votes which spells in no uncertain terms what a commanding personality he is, Ekanayake said.

He said the return of Dissanayake to the SLFP could be termed as the fall of one of UNP’s bastions.

“There will be a further erosion of the UNP vote base not only in the Central Province but also in the entire island as he is a crowd puller and has a lot of his supporters and admirers,” the Chief Minister said.
