Athletes to receive Janashakthi boost
Nine promising athletes received a tremendous boost when Janashakthi
Insurance PLC launched its annual Athletes Sponsorship Program for 2010,
thus continuing this project for the third consecutive year.
Under this programme these outstanding outstation student athletes
will receive a monthly sponsorship, an incentive payment based on
individual performances and overseas travel assistance for any
international meets for which they are selected through 2010.

In addition they will also be supported with training guidance,
technical advice and other such support to enhance their young careers.
The selected athletes are namely: Shashipraba Jayasinghe (19 Years. St.
Joseph's Girls School, Kegalle).
An outstanding sprinter who has represented Sri Lanka in National
Team at the Asian Athletics Championships in China. Best Athlete at
Senior John Tarbet and National School Games Ishara Dayananda (17 Years.
Ferguson Girls High School, Ratnapura).
Outstanding 100 meter Hurdler and Sprinter. Won a number of Best
Athlete awards. Nayomika Jayatilaka (16 Years. Sumana Balika Vidyalaya,
Ratnapura). 400 meter Hurdler and 400 meter Sprinter. Has already
represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Youth Games in Singapore.
Medhani Wickramanayake (14 Years. Sri Sangamiththa Balika National
Vidyalaya, Matale). Outstanding Junior Sprinter. Undefeated over last
three years.
S. Thanusha (17 Years. Arunodaya College, Jaffna). Pole Vault - Age
group Record Holder in 2009. Nimesha Siriwardena (15 Years.
Galenbidunuwewa Central College, Galenbidunuwewa). High Jump - Age group
record holder in 2009. Represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Youth Games in
Singapore.
Chamika Jayamini (16 Years. Sumana Balika Vidyalaya, Ratnapura). Long
Distance Runner - Undefeated over 800, 1500 & 3000m in 2009. Pabasara
Senanayake (16 Years. St. Joseph's Girls School, Kegalle).
Sprinter - Already represented Sri Lanka at the World Youth
Championships in Italy and at the Asian Youth Games in Singapore.
Undefeated in age group for three years.
Hiruni Weerasekera (18 Years. Ferguson Girls High School, Ratnapura).
Long Jump/Triple Jump - Undefeated in age group in 2009.
Shashipraba Jayasinghe, Nayomika Jayatilaka, Ishara Dayananda and
Medhani Wickramanayake have been re-extended for the second year while
the
others have been selected based on performances and economic
challenges that have been overcome during 2009. C.D |
