Magistrate directs Sirasa, TNL to telecast unedited videos

Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Gihan Pilapitiya yesterday directed Sirasa and TNL to telecast the unedited videos of the incident near the Bambalapitiya sea where a man was assaulted in their news bulletins.

Senior Counsel for TNL Upul Jayasuriya and Senior Counsel for Sirasa Udaya Rohan de Silva informed court that they will abide by the court order and will telecast the incident four times in their news bulletins.

Judge Pilapitiya put off the Magisterial inquiry into the death of B. Sivakumara of Ratmalana who was assaulted, for December 11.

On the last hearing date, Crimes DIG Anura Senanayake submitted to court that several electronic media had telecast the incident more than 11 times giving a wrong impression to the public about the police. He requested court to issue an order directing the electronic Media to forward the edited and the unedited videos to court.

Senior Counsel Upul Jayasuriya who appeared with Siraz Noordeen, said TNL will telecast the unedited video cassette as requested by court.

Senior Attorney Udaya Rohan de Silva appearing for Sirasa also agreed to telecast the unedited video cassette in their news telecast.
